Beta Rho celebrated a special Homecoming this year! Robin Sommers '66 received the 2013 Ralph "Rox" Reynolds Alumnus of the Year Award, the Bellak Room as rededicated as the new Ralph "Rox" Reynolds Memorial Library, and two brothers had plaques dedicated in their memories.

Once again, it was great to see everyone at Homecoming. Hopefully everyone who was able to attend was impressed with all that has done to improve the look of the house over the past year.

This was also a special year because we rededicated the Bellak Room to be the new Ralph "Rox" Reynolds Memorial Library. In addition, there was a special dedication to Jim Crummett '64 and Bill Bentley '50, two brothers who made a lasting impression on the fraternity both as active brothers and alumni. Congratulations to Robin Sommers '66 for being the recipient of the 2013 Ralph "Rox" Reynolds Alumnus of the Year Award, for his longstanding support of Beta Rho. Robin's financial contributions to the fraternity have been in excess of $6,000 since 2006, which makes him one of our chapter's top supporters

Regretfully, Robin was out of the country during our Homecoming celebration, so he was not able to be in attendance to accept this special award and express his appreciation in person. He does, however, look forward to returning in 2016 to celebrate his 50th reunion with the brothers from his class of 1966.

Robin stated that he will always remember with great fondness the times he spent at 3819 Walnut Street with his fellow brothers in the early 1960's. Having graduated high school from a small town in Texas, he did not have the most sterling academic credentials and believes he was accepted at Penn due to geographical distribution. So his first years at Wharton – especially sophomore statistics – were hard for him. His grades were not very good and he became somewhat depressed. Had it not been for the camaraderie and support of his Beta Rho brothers, he said he might have thrown in the towel. He will always be grateful to this fraternity for the treasured experience it provided him. Again, he thanks all those involved in giving him this award.
